About Project

This project incorporates fashion design to make the Indonesian Batik industry sustainable and environmentally friendly, an industry which has recently declined due to the younger generation’s indifference and a fall in demand.

Hand-drawn Batik created by craftsmen using manual techniques is mostly produced in the form of fabric pieces, which wasn’t suitable for making contemporary-style clothing.

In collaboration with the Fashion Design department, they created fashion collections using the Batik fabric, developed new products using local textiles and natural dyes, and held education programs for the Batik craftsmen, as well as exhibitions and fashion shows.

Having started in December 2021, the Batik outfits designed to reflect fashion trends were showcased to the world, and in 2023 the program will be expanded to other countries outside of Indonesia, such as Keimyung University of South Korea.
