Resting Reef

About Project

Resting Reef is an eco-friendly funeral service that fundamentally changes the way we see and experience death, the most traumatic moment in our lifetime.

As an alternative to the traditional burial method, which causes problems such as land shortage, groundwater pollution from embalming fluids and other materials with intense emissions, Resting Reef proposes a funeral method where the remains of the deceased are made into a reef-life monument and buried in the sea.

The artificial reefs, each with their own organic form, are created by combining cremated ashes with crushed oyster shells and produced through 3D printing.

Natural oyster reefs, a habitat for a variety of marine life, have decreased by 85%, contributing to the extinction of many marine species.

Artificial reefs contribute to marine diversity by replacing natural oysters reefs, as well as capturing carbon dioxide, purifying seawater and preventing coastal erosion.

A reef-life monument to honor the deceased becomes a legacy of restoring nature for the next generation.
