Yujidao Park is located in Nanchong, the second most populated city in the Sichuan Province of China,

which connects the cities of Chengdu and Chongqing and is a pilot city for the comprehensive planning of small-to-medium-sized cities in China.

The park was built by creating substantial green spaces and drawing water from the Jialing River to incorporate the smooth flow of water in the city.

The Jialing River has served as a lifeline of Sichuan for thousands of years.

Once a boundary dividing city and nature, it is now an integral part of the city. Its blue streams offer a visual connection between the old and new towns.

The park embodies aesthetical elements of Chinese gardens and together with a green forest interlaced with colorful plants, offers a sight resembling a piece of beautiful landscape painting.

Yujidao Park was designed as a public park with abundant water features where people in the city can come and relax,

and at the same time a venue that enables a harmonious and sustainable relationship between people and nature.

Keeping in mind the incorporation of riverside features in the waterfront city park, a deep forest line was built from the inside of the city boundary to the outside,

encompassing the riverside, tidal flats, wetlands, artificial gardens, and primeval forests.

By doing so, the design merged the city with nature and made the transition from a natural landscape to an artificial one.

The landscape design focused on preserving the natural forest as much as possible and maximizing its ecological value by limiting movement and retaining what was already there.

New plants were added through a careful selection process considering the terrain, and trees that come up to the chest with diameters less than ten centimeters were thoughtfully planted.

While walking through Yujidao park, visitors get to enjoy a rich and diverse visual experience

as they witness the magnificence of mountains and the river while also enjoying the pleasant feelings that come from the little details of the park.

Visitor patterns were analyzed, and routes were identified to reflect visitor experiences in the design of the city park.

Since its completion, Yujidao Park has become a high-quality biological habitat and has helped prevent water disasters by providing a buffer between the inland and riverside.

Yujidao Park is a public space where various events such as exhibitions and festivals are held and, at the same time,

a getaway place for citizens to take a walk, lay back, or work out. It has also become a tourist attraction that has helped raise the status and reputation of Nanchong City.

As illustrated above, spatial and regenerative designs, which encompass nature and people, are increasingly growing.

The Human City Design Award defines such cases as a "good" design practice inclusive of all entities.

We should continue encouraging the development of more sustainable designs based on coexistence and harmonious relationships

between nature and people or human-to-human relationships.

In addition, we must make endless efforts to respect the values of all entities. Indeed, that is the ultimate goal of the Human City Design Award.
